I don't know if it is because my kids are both a year older, or if it is because I had problems with my contacts and ended up with an eye infection that seemed to last FOREVER (which meant no eye make-up FOREVER), but I am suddenly obsessed with make-up, creams, lotions, you name it! Any article that I see, I'm on it! I want to know how to look younger, smell better, and have smoother skin! I know, I know--beauty is in the eye of the beholder, beauty is skin deep, blah, blah, blah--so obviously this is an emotional situation that we're dealing with here!
The last time I had my make-up "done," I came away with green glittery eye shadow that made me feel like a lizard! (I did NOT buy the green eyeshadow! And all the other items I bought, I returned. I think I knew that I probably wouldn't wear them!) I happened to be having dinner with a friend that night, so I left it on so she could see it. She thought it looked OK, but it definitely was not me!
So I am trying to resist running out and buying all the products that I've recently read about, but here's one I cannot resist! ShopSmart magazine (an ad-free magazine put out by Consumer Reports) tested 16 eye creams that ranged from $15 to $95. All claimed to reduce fine lines around the eye area. The top performer and best value was Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Aging Booster Eye Transforming Cream which retails for about $20. They found that it worked better than the most expensive creams, so I'm heading out to buy it. Look for the younger-looking me in about 6 weeks! (We'll see how it works!)
And by the way, ShopSmart magazine really is a good magazine. It's not like the Consumer Reports magazine. Some of this month's articles include simple wardrobe updates (I'm reading!), 50 great shopping websites and apps, instant bathroom makeovers, and comparisons of store brands and brand name products. It's always diverse and always interesting!

Oh my gosh, Janis, your comments made me laugh! And thanks for ALL of them! I like the idea of getting dressed up each day. I think I need to try it a bit more. I'm pretty casual most days! Good luck with that teenage make-up thing! I remember getting a bright blue eye shadow pencil when I was about 13. I thought it was the greatest thing! FINALLY someone told me I was wearing a bit too much makeup! I can't even imagine it now!

Last comment I promise. . .there is a website that I came across a few years back, flylady.com, that also suggests dressing from head to toe, to get more accomplished.

When I was in college my social psych professor encouraged us to "dress up" for our exams. She said we would perform better. I believe it! I try to dress up every day so that I feel ready to tackle what is ahead of me that day. The make up I have come to love is Bare Escentuals. It is natural and feels good on. This entry is making me laugh because now that I officially have teenager I see make up from two sides. . .the fun of a young lady and the mask of an aging mom!
